I’m writing this on the last day of exams, before graduation here at Lehigh, and am struck by just how much has happened this year. First off, my gratitude to a fantastic leadership team and to our membership for remaining a dynamic, supportive, and generally fantastic scholarly community.
As the summer starts, we usually spend time catching up on things, usually responsibilities, that need to be done. But, as you close the book on this year, I’ll ask you to start thinking about next year, and how you might like to give back to AEJMC, the History Division, and your broader scholarly community.
In the coming weeks, Caitlin Cieslik-Miskimen and I will be sending out requests for various division service next year. As prior chairs have said, directing the division is like steering a big ship: a lot of small things come together each year to keep us moving forward. If you are interested in deepening your engagement with the division and helping steer the big ship, though, let me know.
Otherwise, some bits of housekeeping that may be welcome news to all of use. First, business meetings will be in-person again at the annual conference. Ours is scheduled for Saturday evening, from 6:30-7:30, right after our top papers’ session. Any votes we take will be virtual, including votes for division officers, though we will announce soon.
Second, we are in the process of bringing the Joint Journalism and Communication Historians’ conference, which we co-organize and sponsor with AJHA, back to New York City. More information soon, but we will need folks to organize. Let me know soon if you are interested. It’s a great service role for anyone in the Northeast or Mid-Atlantic.
Lastly, we will be shifting our e-mail communications to a Google Group. After years of listserv management from Keith Greenwood, we are grateful, and happy to take one bit of digital custodianship finally off his plate.
Alright, conference is around the corner. Thanks to everyone who submitted, who reviewed, and who will attend. We have such a great slate of conference programming lined up.
