Where do you work: I’m currently on sabbatical during the 2022-23 academic year from Millersville University, where I’ve served as Department Chair (since 2014) and as an associate professor teaching primarily courses in communication/public relations, ranging from intro to the capstone, and including social media campaigns; crisis, emergency and risk communication; health comm and communication for school district leaders, as well as public speaking.
Where did you get your Ph.D.: My Ph.D. from Purdue University focused on Public Affairs and Issue Management. My M.S. from Kansas State University was in Journalism and Mass Communication with an emphasis in Public Relations.
What’s your current favorite class: Such a tough question to answer! Any course I’m currently teaching is my favorite. I enjoy students’ excitement when they discover something new, and every semester I learn something new from my preparation, my students – as well as gaining insights from colleagues at conferences and their published work.
What’s your current research project: An examination of the life and work of my maternal grandmother, who was a journalist for 70 years (1919 – 1989). The sabbatical has allowed me to process and catalog her work as well as letters she wrote me about the practice when I taught a journalism course as a graduate student at Purdue.
What’s a fun fact about yourself: I’ve spent time in 44 out of our 50 states (still need to visit Alabama, Mississippi, South Carolina, North Dakota, Alaska, and Hawaii).
