A note from the Journalism History editor

Journalism History earlier this year joined the ranks of academic publications distributed by Taylor & Francis’ highly professional production team. With a full volume in this arrangement nearing completion, Journalism History still features the articles, essays, and reviews that have drawn writers and readers to it in previous decades.

As a reminder to long-time readers as well as those new to the journal, changes in our submission process now requires use of the Editorial Manager site (https://journalism-history.org/submissions). Melita M. Garza still administers book review materials at melita.garza@tcu.edu.

By way of other updates, I can share a few noteworthy observations:

  • The acceptance rate of manuscripts submitted to the journal has remained consistent over the past year when compared with previous editors. I have edited an estimated 100 manuscripts both in months when the journal was self-published and now with Taylor & Francis. Of these submissions, roughly, 25 have gone to print, 25 rejected, and 50 are under review or revision. Most of these manuscripts have come from a pool developed before the switch to Editorial Manager.
  • At the same time, it is fair to note a drop in the number of new submissions since early 2019, due — as I have gathered anecdotally — to a sizable number of History Division members devoting work to books recently published or in progress.

For these reasons, please allow me — along with the leadership of AEJMC’s History Division, its members, and the editorial staff of the journal — to encourage you to submit scholarship for review. We invite materials that follow these guides: https://journalism-history.org/submissions. Please feel free to forward this information to your colleagues.
